Welcome to the PMC family, where the journey is deeply personal, and the passion for exceptional dementia care is at the core.
In 2009, Kirsten and Danie began their journey into marriage, growing into a family of five. Rooted in Durbanville, they not only built a life together but also thrived in their respective ventures—Danie overseeing two recycling factories, and Kirsten managing a coffee trading business.
The narrative of Protea Memory Clinic (PMC) unfolded in 2015 when an opportunity arose to acquire land. Fuelled by a shared experience with dementia in their families, the couple recognized the universal challenges faced by their extended families in Prieska and Cape Town.
Acknowledging the emotional toll on families in dementia care discussions, Kirsten and Danie envisioned more than a facility. They aspired to create a home where families could entrust loved ones without guilt, providing individuals with dementia an opportunity to experience life fully. This vision, an extension of family, aimed to make visits filled with warmth and familiarity.
The journey to bring this vision to life was complex. Facility designs evolved, size considerations changed, and their other businesses demanded attention. Amidst delays, an unexpected opportunity arose in 2021 to rescue a facility on the brink of liquidation. Stepping into the existing space, meeting with Annaréne, and sensing the momentum, Kirsten and Danie realized that PMC was ready to come to life, even if not on their originally intended plot.
Today, they take pride in PMC’s dedicated team and feel blessed by the families choosing their care. PMC has expanded to offer home-based care, bringing specialized programs, trained companions, and nurses into the homes of families not yet ready to part with their loved ones.
For Kirsten and Danie, PMC is more than a venture; it’s a heartfelt commitment driven by personal experiences with dementia. It’s a sanctuary where compassion, dignity, and family converge, ensuring every step is taken with love.
